Abel Tasman

Kaiteriteri is the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. Hiking the entire coastal trail takes 3-4 days. But there are numerous water taxi services that will drop you off at various beaches along the route. You can hike out or get picked up at a designated point along the trail. The beaches are very shallow so a large farm tractor drives the boats out on a trailer. They disconnect and then take off. This is very efficient and quite a site to see.
We are lucky it is a bright sunny day ( "fine" remember?) We decide to do a 3 hour hike to get a taste of Abel Tasman. We were not disappointed. The trail winds along the coast in and out of the shoreline through lush forests and rivers. The beaches are shallow and long with golden colored sands. They make calendars out of places like this!
We return to Kimi Ora for a 3 course dinner and later take in the string quartet concert.
