Kauri
We left the retreat center after a morning of trip planning. Breakfast was in the town of Coromandel at an off-beat cafe. We then headed off on a back road to see the giant kauri trees. These trees once covered NZ until great numbers were cut down for their prized hardwood. Some of this hardwood ended up in SF where it was used to rebuild homes after the 1906 earthquake. It was a nice walk in the woods. We then said our goodbyes to Mike and head up to the NE part of the peninsula.
