Tread lightly, the crust is thin here

There are many thermal features here in Rotorua. The town is geared up for tourists. We walked through Government Gardens and toured the Rotorua Museum. It used to be the Bathhouse. This is where people came to take the cure. Mud baths were especially popular. Some practioners even ran a weak electric current through the bath waters! You can now get all of these spa services at the Polynesian Spa, right on the lake. ( not the electric baths though.) In the museum we decide to seee the 20 minute "high impact film". It was an experience similar to the Star Wars ride in Disneyland, as they reenacted the 19th C volcanic eruption that destroyed the area. The museum also displayed the old bath house works. We wish we had some time to take in the Polynesian Spa!
