It kept raining on and off all night. Big bursts of rain, then nothing. In the morning I though it would clear, then another 10-15 minutes of rain. It felt like we were in a rain forest. We found out later this is not normal, but a cyclone off the coast of Australia was causing all the weird weather.
After breakfast we headed out to the beach to see the spectacular coastline. The dense fern forest gave way to NZ flax and more open shrub. We spotted a double rainbow over the ocean. Didn't get close to the wicked waves coming and the high tide.
